Currently 39 States use or recognize the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Body Work (NCBTMB) Certification. However Lawrence, like most other cities in the state of Kansas, do not require a massage therapists to be licensed.

Marcia Butell, The Owner of Rejuvene Salon and Spa, has always promoted massage education within her work. This was highlighted in a article by the Lawrence Journal World newspaper:

"Cities can enact their own laws to regulate massage businesses. In Lawrence, city officials do not require therapists to receive a city license to operate their business.
